News DISNEY MUSIC LIBRARY January '07 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has completed another year as part of the music preparation team at Disney. Projects in 2006 included Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Mission: Impossible 3, The Prestige, Snakes on a Plane, and The Good Shepherd, as well as the television series Desperate Housewives and Lost. BEATBOX COLOMBIA - listen December '06 Beatox Colombia, the Dirk Lienig-directed documentary on Colombian rappers, has been featured at several international film festivals, including Munich, Sydney, DOKU.ARTS, Berlin. Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli's score is a hybrid of hip-hop rhythms and dark orchestral strains. DIDO/JOHN BRION November '06 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli spent two days in the studio with composer and producer Jon Brion (Fiona Apple, Kanye West, I Heart Huckabees) assisting with orchestrations and arrangements for the forthcoming album by British chanteuse Dido. Utilizing unique orchestral instruments like euphoniums, Wagner tubas, and bass flutes, the tracks were recorded at London's Abbey Road studios. DR. DRE/TIFFANY October '06 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli conducted a 30-piece string orchestra on a recent session for legendary hip-hop producer Dr. Dre. The track is a cover of the '80s Teena Marie song "Yes, Indeed" by the young emerging singer Tiffany. Arranged by Eric Gorfain of The Section Quartet, the chart was recorded at Capitol Records Studios in Hollywood. ELIPSIS RELEASED IN LATIN AMERICA - listen September '06 After 8 weeks of box office success in Venezuela, Elipsisreceivedthe awards for Best ScreenplayandBest Cinematographyat theMŽrida Film Festivaland the award for Best Editing at the Film Municipal Awards.The film eclipsed American releases such as Munich and Crash at the box office. The cast includes EdgarRam’rez (Domino, The Bourne Ultimatum) and Seu Jorge (City of God, The Life Aquatic). ELIPSIS SCORE COMPLETED - listen July '06 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has completed the music score for Elipsis, the feature debut by director Eduardo Arias-Nath and distributed by 20th Century Fox (Latin America). Like the film, the score is a mŽlange of suspense and romance featuring a 35-piece orchestra, ambient electronic textures, and the operatic voice of soprano Renee Souza. THE SECTION QUARTET RECORDS GENTRIFY - listen May '06 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli went into the studio with The Section Quartet and engineer Noa Lazerus to record Gentrify. The work was recorded with vintage analog equipment at New Monkey Studio in Van Nuys, the former personal studio of the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. April '06 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli continued his orchestration and conducting work on Christina Aguilera's smash album Back to Basics, contributing to the songs "The Right Man", "Welcome", "Mercy On Me", and the single "Hurt". GENTRIFY receives ACF SUBITO AWARD - listen October '05 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli is one of five composers chosen to receive a "Subito" Award from the American Composers Forum. The grant funds will assist the composer in recording his new work Gentrify written for the Los Angeles-based Section String Quartet. August '05 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli conducted a 30-piece string orchestra on four tracks from the forthcoming album by Christina Aguilera. Arranged by Eric Gorfain of The Section Quartet, the charts were recorded at Kung Fu Gardens Studios in Burbank and produced by Linda Perry (Pink, Gwen Stefani). STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE March '05 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has spent this last season orchestrating and synth-producing for composer Jay Chattaway on Paramount's STAR TREK: Enterprise. The music scores were prepared using Make Music's Finale notation software while synth tracks were produced using Apple's Logic Audio. BEATBOX COLOMBIA - listen February '05 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has begun scoring the documentary Beatbox Colombia for the French television network ARTE and German director Dirk Lienig. The film follows the lives of Colombian hip hop musicians and tells the story of how their music reflects their turbulent lives. Stay tuned for 2006 air dates. THE TRISTAN PROJECT December '04 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has written a lauded feature article on Los Angeles Philharmonic's Tristan Project, a momentous collaboration by conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, director Peter Sellars, and artist Bill Viola. The extensive article includes interviews and background material on their "Tristan and Isolde for the 21st Century." Walt Disney Concert Hall patrons can look for the article in December's Performing Arts Magazine. BEYOND LOVELY - listen November '04 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli completed the music score for Beyond Lovely, a short film for director Hilary Goldberg (Render: Spanning Time with Ani DiFranco) and producer Cesar Vega. The supernatural comedy features performance artist Vaginal Davis. Look for it to hit festivals in 2005! MUSIC FOR PEOPLE October '04 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli began the Musicianship and Leadership Program of "Music for People", a Connecticut-based organization dedicated to "promoting self-expression through music and improvisation." He will be attending four workshops a year for the next four years in improvisation and group leadership taught by renown cellist and ECM recording artist David Darling. HEROES AND VILLAINS - listen August '04 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has just completed a forty-minute score for Daniel Semel's coming-of-age comedy feature Heroes and Villains. Because the film is named after a late '60s Brian Wilson song, the score attempts to reference the eclectic post-modern pop music of that era and features local singer Jason Luckett. Stay tuned for screenings. BMI CONDUCTING WORKSHOP July '04 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli recently took part in the BMI Conducting Workshop under the tutelage of Lucas Richman (The Village). The workshop culminated in his leading a 35-piece orchestra of the top musicians in Los Angeles in portions of Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 and Jerry Goldsmith's score from Star Trek: First Contact. CAMPAIGN SPOTS - listen June '04 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli composed music for six advertisement spots for several judicial campaign races in...let's just call it a "red state." Producing and directing the spots was the composer's oft-collaborator J.T.S. Moore, director of Revolution OS and Shooting Creek. SUNDANCE COMPOSERS LAB - listen August '03 Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli has just returned from Utah, where he took part in the Sundance Composers Lab, studying with renowned film composers Carter Burwell, George S. Clinton, and Rolfe Kent, among others. He also collaborated with directors Zana Briski and Ross Kauffman (Born Into Brothels), and Caran Hartsfield (Kiss It Up To God) composing music in a workshop setting. PRAYER OF THE HELIOTROPE - listen February '03 Percussionists Aaron Smith and Ken McGrath premiered Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli's concert piece Prayer of the Heliotrope at Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles) to an enthusiastic audience. |
